For years, it seems that every party or theme night at Gay bars in Phoenix have been targeted to those boys who are barely of drinking age.  That’s finally changing.  Now there's Moustache Ride, a new monthly event promoted as a real ‘Men’s Party.’ The Ride will initially be held on the first Tuesday of every month at Ice Pics Video Bar, which is located at 3108 E. McDowell Road, right next to the original Red Devil Restaurant at 31^st Street & McDowell. 

So, what exactly is Moustache Ride?  In short, it’s a party for all men that actually celebrates the large Gay population in Phoenix who enjoy the attitude of the ‘hippest hangouts’ or mingling with twinks when they go out.  There will be sexy Go-Go Boys, but unlike every other bar or club promotion, the guys won’t be barely out of puberty.  They’ll be great looking real men. Promoters say the party will provide a unique look and feel with special lighting, DJ’s brought in from New York, and even images of vintage 70’s & 80’s porn stars showing on the tons of flat screen TV’s that cover the walls at Ice Pics (Arizona law doesn’t allow bars to show full-on porn, but they promise a creative, sexy adaptation).

So, who’s behind the new Moustache Ride?  It’s a joint effort between promoter David Garcia and the owners of Ice Pics.  Garcia recently returned to his native home of Arizona after many years in New York.  He approached Ice Pics with the idea after promoting a similar party in New York and they quickly jumped on board.  For those who may not have been, Ice Pics has quickly become a new hot spot since opening nearly two years ago.  They draw a huge crowd every Sunday for their Show Tune Sunday, which anyone who’s been to Side Track in Chicago will recognize.  They’ve also become known for unique promotions like ASS Thursday (where they give away $100 for the best ass every Thursday) and MEAT Fridays, featuring the more typical cute, young Go-Go Boys and always a good crowd.  They also feature the biggest library of music videos and hilarious comedy clips of any bar in Arizona.  Ice Pics managing partner, Don Parker, stated “in the year and a half since we opened, we’ve noticed that there really aren’t many parties or events targeted to anyone over 25 or so.  When David approached us, it was no-brainer.  When we started asking people whether or not this type of party was needed the response was an overwhelming ‘YES’.” 

If the need is so great, many might wonder why Moustache Ride is only happening once a month?  Parker responded that they will be “monitoring it closely to determine if it could be supported on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  While there’s a definite need, the question remains whether the crowd will come out on a week night every single week”  So, it seems if you want the party on a more regular basis, you should be sure to let Garcia & Parker know when you’re there!

Whether Moustache Ride remains a once-a-month party or grows to more frequency, one thing is for sure…this has been needed in Phoenix for a long time!  Just knowing that if you’re a man not only will you not get passed up by a bartender for the twink next to you, but instead the party is actually FOR YOU.  Parker said he expects younger guys to join the party as well, especially those who like a real man.  Garcia added that this really is a party for everyone, but the primary goal is to provide something different with special attention to those guys that most bars take for granted.  Bottom line is it’s about time.  See you all for the Moustache Ride the 1^st Tuesday of the month (for now!).
